NAVIGATING & advocating: EMBRACING MENTAL ILLNESS WITH LOVE, STRENGTH, & HUMOR
Yikes, here goes … I am entering into the blogging world with the encouragement from family, friends, and professionals!
Both of my boys struggle with mental illness. NAVIGATING the mental health world is no small feat and ADVOCATING has become an endurance sport.
My hope for this blog is simple …
TO SHARE WHAT I HAVE LEARNED AND TO MAKE YOUR PATH A LITTLE EASIER AND LESS ISOLATING.
Most of the posts within this blog PROVIDE YOU WITH STRATEGIES AND RESOURCES YOU CAN IMMEDIATELY USE when working with your school district and accessing psychiatric services.
My intent is to post at least twice a week. One of the two posts will be more detailed with specific strategies and recommended resources. The other(s) will be a quick hit post … a funny story, an interesting article, a good resource, etc.
It truly takes a village to raise a child who sees the world in his or her own unique and special way.
My final hope (and a selfish one), is that we grow our village through sharing and learning together. I truly look forward to hearing from you and adding your proven strategies to my tool box.
I am not a mental health expert and what I share in this blog is from our experiences.
